The Winter Season At Dundalk Gets Underway Tonight

The winter season gets underway tonight at Dundalk and we send a nice team of horses there and we run two in the opening fillies maiden.

Pat Smullen rides Blackgold Fairy and she is a filly that we like and she is well drawn in 3. She goes well and I’ve been pleased with her work at home and like all of ours, she will come on for the experience but in saying that, I’d expect her to run well.

She is owned by Zhang Yuesheng, who is a very good client of ours and he has invested a lot of money into Irish racing over the last number of years and he is a pleasure to have anything to do with.  He sent us four well-bred fillies lately and we appreciate his support.

We also run Portally Cove and Conor (Hoban) rides her. Like Blackgold Fairy, she is a big, scopey filly. She is still pretty raw, but she is a filly that we like and I was keen to get her started and I think she will improve a fair amount for the run.

Hope Lake takes her chance in the three year old only handicap over a mile and a quarter. She has top weight to shoulder but, her maiden form is reasonably good.

She is well drawn and she appears to be improving and Pat (Smullen) rides her.

She has to concede over a stone to some of her rivals, but she is a big, strong filly and I think she’ll acquit herself well.

We run two of the five runners in the mile and a quarter maiden and I’d like to think that Vienna Circle has a big chance.

On paper it looks a match between her and Clear Skies, but Andy Oliver has a good record at Dundalk and he runs his newcomer Play It Cool and we also run Amuletum, who is a half-sister to Anamba, which was a listed winner for us last season.

She has a lovely temperament, but she is laid back and has been slow to come to hand. We’ll see how she gets on and Conor rides her and I think she’ll run well.

We have booked Pat for Vienna Circle which ran a good race at Dundalk in a handicap the last day and she will appreciate the small field. Aidan’s filly Clear Skies sets the standard, but our filly goes there with a big chance.

We have nine entered for Friday and we’ll have an update on those later this week.
