It’s great to be back in Dubai for the Carnival and we run two horses tonight in Simsir and Surrounding. Ronan and I arrived over here last Sunday, (we also have Massif Central over) and thankfully, all three have settled in well.

We’ve enjoyed success at The Carnival before, in particular with Certerach, who won the Gold Cup for us on World Cup night, back in 2014.

My thoughts on our two runners tonight are below

3.40 Simsir (Tadhg O’Shea)

This will be his biggest test to date, but he looks terrific and my staff have been very happy with him since he arrived over. He is very lightly raced and we feel that he is on an upward curve. He is lazy enough in the mornings, but he saves his best for the track. He travelled over great and he is fresh and well and has taken everything in his stride.  We have booked Tadhg to ride him (he only has 8st 5lbs which is too light for Ronan) and we go back a long way. He was champion apprentice twice when he was with me and he’s a multiple champion jockey over here in Dubai. I’m delighted to have him riding for us.

4.15 Surrounding (Ronan Whelan)

I have had this race in mind for her for a long time and she comes here in great form and I thought her last run, when she won a listed race at Dundalk, was her best run to date. She is a pleasure to train and she has settled in really well. This looks a good opportunity for her at this level and I hope the ground continues to dry out. We had a wet night over here on Tuesday, but it has been dry since and it should continue to dry out throughout the day. Ronan gets on very well with her and while there are some very good fillies in the line-up, I think she’ll represent us very well.
