I arrived out to Dubai on Tuesday and I am delighted to see the horses in such good order – Robbie and Adam are both doing a great job. The owners both have travelled out also and we are enjoying a couple of days in the sun, which is in sharp contrast to the weather at home. We just have two runners at Meydan tonight.
20.15 (local time) 16.15 (Ire) SURROUNDING (Tadgh O’Shea)
Surrounding is running in the Balanchine (Gr 2). This is her first attempt at nine furlongs and while I am not confident of her staying, I am pretty hopeful of her staying. She is well drawn in stall one and the race looks a re-run of the Cape Verdi four weeks ago. She was disappointing that evening as she was in season but she ran a great race two weeks ago in a handicap, beaten one and a half lengths into fourth place, coming from a wide draw. On ratings it is a tight race and if she was to run into the first three, I would be delighted with her.
22.00 (local time) 18.00 (Ire) MASSIF CENTRAL (Tadgh O’Shea)
Massif Central had a very promising first run finishing a close second to Dubai Future on January 23rd. He has been in great form since and he looks amazing. The draw is not as kind to us tonight (drawn in 11 of 16) but hopefully he can overcome it. Godolphin have a strong hand, running eight of the sixteen runners, that said, we are hoping for a big run.
Tadgh O’Shea rides both as Ronan Whelan is suspended.
