Happy New Year everyone and we are back at Dundalk tonight with three runners and my thoughts on them are below.

Last week, we shipped out our three horses for the Dubai Carnival which started yesterday, namely Simsir, Surrounding and Massif Central

All three have all settled in well and we’ll get them started this month. The prize money is fantastic over there and Dubai has been the plan for them for some time and it’s a fixture that we’ve had plenty of success at, so we are all looking forward to it.

5.00 Arcanears (Eamonn Fitzgerald)

He has been running well over the winter and for a horse that appreciates an ease in the ground, he is very happy on this surface. He drops back to five tonight after a very good effort the last day when second over six furlongs. He is in very good form, but he has a poor draw in stall 10, which isn’t ideal. But Eamonn will take 10lbs off him – he has ridden on the track and he rides him out a lot at home and I think taking the 10lbs off, will be a big help to him.

6.00 Miss Snossyboots (Ronan Whelan)

She is a dual course and distance winner and has run two solid races this winter. She has come forward with each run and she comes into the race in very good form. She has dropped down the ratings and on her best form, she’d have a chance. Her homework has improved and we know that she handles the surface and I think she’s capable of running a good race.

7.30 Mecklenburg (Ronan Whelan)

He had a lovely first run at Cork last year and we gave him a chance after that and he is ready to start back. I have been very happy with his work and he has been pleasing us at home. He is drawn out wide in 10, but he might be able to overcome that in a maiden. If he gets the breaks, he’s capable of a good run. I think he’d prefer seven furlongs, but there isn’t a seven furlong maiden for a while so we’ll let him take his chance. He is a horse that we like and hopefully he’ll represent us well.
