It’s great that we are back racing later today at Dundalk where we run three and my thoughts on them are below. It’s been well documented that there was a lengthy meeting earlier this week, where a very strict set of protocols were put in place to ensure that racing continues behind closed doors. The situation is being monitored daily by a sub-committee.
2.00 Strip Light (Ronan Whelan)
Despite the fact there is a small field, this looks a competitive race with three winners and they appear to set the standard along with Line Judge. We like our horse and he got bogged down in very testing ground on his only start at The Curragh last season. He is a horse we like and he is ready to start off. The trip and surface should be fine for him and he will improve for today’s outing.
4.00 Gougane Barra (Ronan Whelan)
He is a dual course winner and we are stepping him up to a mile and a half for the first time today and I’d be hopeful that he will get twelve furlongs. He has been jumping a little awkwardly from the gates, but if he can get away on terms, I think he has every chance. It looks a typically competitive race for the grade, but he has been working well and I’m hopeful of a big run from him.
4.30 Wherewithal (Niall McCullagh)
He has been gelded since his last run and he has been pleasing me at home in his work. I think six around here is a good trip for him and I’d be hopeful that he will leave his last run behind and run a solid race. He has a good draw and he comes into the race in good form.
