The Derby Festival gets underway at The Curragh later today and the place looks great and hopefully the crowds will come.
The weather looks settled and we are there tonight with Massif Central in the premier handicap and it’s great to see that all the main contenders have stood their ground for Saturday’s Derby.
I hope to run 7 horses on Friday and Saturday and as I said, Massif Central takes his chance tonight and here are my thoughts on him.
6.45 Massif Central (Ronan Whelan)
He has been in great form and he ran a blinder when second in the Cork Derby the last day. He could have done with a stronger pace at Cork, but he came home very well and he’s a horse that has been running consistently well all season and he deserves to pick up a good pot like this. He’ll appreciate the good ground and hopefully there will be plenty of pace in the race. It looks very competitive, but I’ve been very happy with him since Cork and if things go his way, you’d like to think that he’ll be in the mix again.
