I was at Royal Ascot for a few days last week and I was pleased with Irishcorrespondent who I thought, ran a very good race in The Hampton Court Stakes. He got a bit warm at the start and he raced a little free. They didn’t go a strong gallop and as a result, there wasn’t much room in the straight.
But he came home well and he has been fine since. That was just his fourth career start and he got the trip well so that opens up more options for him.
Moritzburg ran a good race in The Britannia – he was up there on the stands side and he ran well for a long way. I was pleased with him and he has come out of the race fine, but I think he’ll be better on a turning track.
We sold Yulong Warrior at the sale on Monday and he was bought by Satish Seemar, who is based in Dubai. He’ll remain with us for a while and he’ll eventually go to Dubai, but I’ll find a maiden for him in the next few weeks.
We had a good few runners last week and the majority of them ran well. The likes of Kirk’s Dancer, Cloudy Miss, Claregate Street and Hunaina ran with plenty of promise in their respective races.
Port Lions ran well in what was a strong maiden at Gowran on Sunday. He finished third to Rostropovich and he is held in high regard. My horse improved for his first run at The Curragh and he will come on again for Sunday and he should be able to win his maiden.
We run some nice horses at Naas tonight. Yulong Xionghu goes for the seven furlong maiden and he made a very promising start when second on his debut at Limerick. He steps up a furlong tomorrow, and I’d expect him to run very well.
Petticoat will take her chance in the Oaks Trial. She has a mark of 90 and this looks a nice race for her. She will appreciate the step up to a mile and a quarter and she seems to be in very good form.
Claregate Street and Miss Snossyboots will line up in the mile and a quarter handicap and Dayerah will start off in the fillies maiden.
We like her and she goes well. She was a bit slow to come to hand earlier in the year, but she is working well and this looks a suitable race to start her off. Whatever she does tomorrow, she will improve a good bit for the run.
I’ll post an update on my runners at The Curragh for Derby weekend on Friday morning.
