We go chasing black type later this evening with Orchid Gardens who lines up in the Listed Patton Stakes at Dundalk, but it was great to win a big race in Dubai last night after Simsir won a valuable race at The Carnival.

MEYDAN 27-2-20. SIMSIR and Ronan Whelan

It was a great result for all our team. Robbie Gallagher has been over there since the horses were shipped over. Fabien Burke was over there for a few weeks, while Adam Farragher has been out there for the last while and they have all done a fantastic job with our three horses over there.

Ronan gave the horse a confident ride and he won a shade cosily in the end.

Massif Central acquitted himself well just missing out on fourth place in a Group 3, and the plan is for Simsir and Massif Central to return home on Monday.  Surrounding is in very good form and she goes for a 9 furlong Group 1 on the 7th of March.

My thoughts on Orchid Gardens are below.

Dundalk 7.00 Orchid Gardens (Rory Cleary)

She is a nice filly which looks up to winning her maiden. We’ll probably change tactics a little with her tonight and she has run two solid races to date and she’s a filly that is open to more improvement. There are a good few unexposed types in the race and our filly meets Crossfirehurricane, which beat her a few weeks ago. On ratings, there isn’t a great deal between a good few of the runners and our filly has come forward again since her last run. If she managed to finish in the first three, that would be a great result.
