Friday Night at Dundalk with 5 Runners

It’s a busy night for us at Dundalk with five runners and we run three in the two-year-old maiden.

Defining Year (R Cleary) is a smashing big horse that we like. He is well drawn and he goes well and like all of ours, he will come for the run, but I think he will run a big race.

Karasi (N McCullagh) has posted two very solid runs at The Curragh and Killarney earlier in the year and he just weakened up after his last run, so we gave him a chance and that bit of time has done him the power of good. We brought him to Dundalk to work recently and he handled the surface well and he should give a very good account of himself.

We also run Magic Shuffle (S Foley) and he came forward a lot from his first to his second run and he’s an improving horse. He has an okay draw and I think he’ll run a respectable race and this run will qualify him for nurseries, which gives us options for him.

Ahlan Bil Zain (R Coakley) likes the surface and I think the step up to a mile will suit him in the apprentice handicap. We know that he handles the surface and he remains in good form and I thought he was a shade unlucky the last day and I’ve been happy with him on the lead up to today’s race. He should run a big race.

La Novia (N McCullagh) remains in good form and I felt the draw beat her the last day and she has to have a big chance in the second division of the seven-furlong handicap. She is well drawn and she has been holding her form well all season and she has to have a big chance.

We had a great night this day last week, when both Massif Central and Lady De Vesci both won. The latter will be kept on the go for the winter and she is an improving filly that will hopefully be able to win again over the winter for us.

Massif Central has been running well all season and it was great to sign off the year by winning that nice pot last week. That will be it for the year for him and he’ll be a nice horse for us for next season. I was especially delighted for his owner Paul Rooney, who has had to be patient with him and I am sure there is more to come from him.
