We were delighted with all four of our Royal Ascot runners this week.
YULONG BAOBEI was first to run on Tuesday in the Windsor Castle Stakes (Listed). She ran a blinder under Shane Foley until weakening in the final furlong on ground that would not suit her. She looks like a filly with a big future and shows wonderful pace. She represented Mr. Zhang from China, who was present to see her run – a great day was had by all.
We had 3 runners on Wednesday and we were lucky enough to achieve a life time ambition when PORTAGE gave us our first Royal Ascot winner in the Royal Hunt Cup (Heritage Handicap). It was a great performance by the horse, owned by Godolphin and ridden brilliantly by James Doyle. It was a wonderful day given that Sheikh Mohammed was present. We were privileged to be part of the Godolphin owned treble on that day.
HASANOUR ran a blinder in the Royal Hunt Cup also under Shane Foley, until struggling on the soft ground inside the final furlong. Shane was convinced that he would have been involved, were he on his preferred ground. He gave Richard & Gemma McNally a great day out and there is a lots more fun to be had from him.
ANAMBA represented us in the Sandringham Handicap (Listed) and again received a fine ride from William Buick. She arrived with every chance but struggled on the soft ground inside the final furlong to finish 6th. We were delighted with her in the circumstances and she is a filly with a big future.
Robbie Gallagher, Mark Morrissey and Jamie Heavey did a great job with the horses at Ascot while Fabian Burke, Darren (Fitzy) Fitzharris and Martin Devenney kept the show on the road at home while we were away. Ajay Bhagwat who looks after PORTAGE is really proud of his horse and rightly so – and we thank him.
It was a great week for the whole team and we look forward to future successes in the year to come.
