Venezia completed a memorable evening for us at Dundalk when running out a clear-cut winner of the concluding Dundalk Stadium On Facebook Maiden, and in doing so, completed a four-timer for us, the second of which we have recorded at the County Louth racecourse.
The son of Galileo was formerly trained in the UK and he finished a good fourth in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot on his penultimate start.
Making his debut for us, Venezia was sent off the clear 9/10 favourite and he stayed very well to win. We think that he will improve plenty. He could be a very nice horse next year and is one that we are very excited about.
Zunera opened our account for the evening when landing the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden. She had very strong credentials on paper prior to the race so it was nice to see her go and win well.
Shane gave her a good ride and took the lead inside the final furlong before quickening away from the rest of the field in very good style. Interestingly, Zunera is our first ever runner for the Aga Khan over the five five furlong trip so it was fantastic that she could make it a winning one.
Kernoff was our widest margin winner of the night and may well have booked his ticket for Dubai having landed the following Dundalk – Light Up Your Night Handicap by just under five lengths.
He’s just learning to sprint now. Before he was jumping out and they were gone and he was flying home in his races. It’s a specialised trip. He’s only learning now how to jump, travel, hold his place and quicken whereas he was falling out of the stalls and taking forever to warm up in his races.
Shane said he travelled comfortably as well. He’s getting better and learning his job. We’ll see what the handicapper does. I said earlier in the year we might consider Dubai if he hits 100 so we might bring him. He’s another who we are very happy about.
Finally, Glassatura returned to her best to take the Crowne Plaza Hotel Race & Stay Handicap. She was a good two-year-old but just lost her way a bit. She was always likely to do something like that coming down the ratings.
It’s great to win a race with her and I have to thank her owner Michael Enright who has been very patient with her. She’ll be kept in training next season and I think she could come back to herself and hopefully find her old form.
