Firstly I was delighted to win a race with Spelga for Paul Rooney. I’ve said it many times before about Paul’s patience and once more Spelga is a typical example on his tenth run to win. Now he’s got his head in front hopefully he can win again. He should give Paul some fun for the Winter.

We have a busy evening in Dundalk with seven runners in six races.

5.45           HIEROGLYPHIC     RONAN WHELAN

Hieroglyphic is a lovely well bred filly owned by Godolphin. She had a day out in Dundalk recently and she loves the surface. We like her and think she’s up to winning a maiden.  I would expect her to improve for her run.

6.15        EYE OF THE DRAGON    RONAN WHELAN

We haven’t got Eye of the Dragon that long but what we see of her you would like her. We had her half-sister Kodianne who was placed for us. We think she’s a filly that will do well in time.

7.15        BALMARI             RONAN WHELAN

Balmari was left a long way on his first run and never got involved. He’s a horse we like and he has done plenty of stalls work since.  I’m expecting to see a lot more from him tonight.

7.15        KALAPOUR         NIALL MC CULLAGH

Kalapour is a lovey big backward colt. He has been to Dundalk recently and likes the surface. He’s ready to start and he will do better in time. He’s a half-brother to the smart Kalaxana who won a listed race for us. His other half-sister Kalanoura runs in the last race tonight.

7.45        KATIYMANN      RONAN WHELAN

Katiymann is a real favourite in the yard now. The handicapper appears to have his measure but he should run his usual solid race. He’s a course and distance winner so we are happy for a big run.

8.15        TIRMIZI                LIAM BROWNE

Tirmizi has been a bit frustrating this year but he is now off an attractive handicap mark. He ran well here before and against his opposition he would run well if he got it altogether.  Liam Browne is an apprentice to look out for and it would be great if he could win for him. Liam claiming 7lbs is a big help.

8.45        KALANOURA      RONAN WHELAN

Kalanoura’s first time in a handicap and over this trip. After a very encouraging first run in Dundalk a year ago I didn’t think she would be a maiden still. She’s been working well but has a poor draw. That being said she works better than her current rating.
