Blackgold Fairy is a filly that we like and I was delighted with her when she won her maiden decisively a couple of weeks ago. I think she is a stakes filly and I am happy to let her take her chance in the listed Patton Stakes at Dundalk tonight.
Pat Smullen liked her when he won on her the last day, but I wasn’t expecting this race to be as strong as it is and Aidan runs three that range in ratings from 111 to 116.
I was hoping that our filly would sneak a bit of black type, but she looks up against it and if Aidan’s horses run to their ratings, they will be very hard to beat.
Having said that, our filly has come forward since her last run and I think she’ll make into a nice filly and I think we’ll see her at best on good ground during the summer. If she ran into a place we’d be delighted and she is open to more improvement and is one to look forward to for the remainder of the season.
We run Russian Soul in the seven furlong handicap and Dean Curran takes 10lbs off him and I’ve been pleased with him since his last run, but he looks up against it drawn out in stall 13 and Dean also rides Shadagann in the mile and a half handicap and I think he’s capable of running a decent race from a good draw.
Both horses have been great servants and owe us nothing at this stage.
Another of the stable favourites Paddy The Celeb lines up in the amateur handicap. My nephew Evan who rides out for us a good bit, is looking forward to riding him and he rides well and Paddy should give him a good spin. He’ll appreciate the surface and the two mile trip.
Slievenabrock to be ridden by Conor Hoban takes his chance in the three year old handicap and he has been slow to come to hand and found life tough in maidens. But he has been given a realistic mark and those runs have brought him on. This is his first run in a handicap and he has a nice enough draw and he should be competitive in a race of this nature.
