We were delighted to win the BetVictor Patton Stakes (Listed Race) last week at Dundalk with Playa Del Puente.  He got a great ride from Ronan and he showed a good attitude.  That’s it for him now in Ireland and he will continue his career in Hong Kong, where his owners are based.

He was purchased after his first run and has won his next three races.  His owners are delighted with him and we are very grateful to have had the opportunity to train him.  I’m sure there is lots more to come from him as he’s still a big baby.  We wish them lots of luck going forward with him.

I’m heading over to Hong Kong myself on Saturday for a few days and am looking forward to racing at Shah Tin (Derby Day, Sunday) and Happy Valley on Wednesday night.  It’s been over 20 years since my last visit, so I’m sure I’ll see lots of changes.

After having no runners last Friday in Dundalk, it’s business as usual tonight with 3 runners.

6.45 YAMATO (Ronan Whelan)

Yamato has come down the handicap a lot since his last win.  We think he’s better going a trip these days, so stepping back up to 12 furlongs should suit him.  He’s well drawn in 3 and I would expect him to give Ronan a good ride.  We will ride him patiently.

8.15 GOUGANE BARRA (Ronan Whelan)

Gougane Barra ran a fine race last week to finish 3rd.  He will appreciate stepping back up to a mile and this looks a good race for him.  He’s a good draw in 4 and Ronan rides him really well.  He has a winning chance.

8.45 ISOSCELES (Ronan Whelan)

Isosceles showed a great attitude to win on his last run.  This is his first handicap and only his third run, so we still have more to learn about him.  He loves the surface but drawn 10 is a disadvantage in a competitive handicap.  That being said he is in great form at home albeit he’s a lazy worker, but he should have learned a lot from his last run.  I expect a big run from him.

DUNDALK 1-2-19. ISOSCELES and Ross Coakley (noseband) beats off ONEIROI and CERBERUS (far side) for trainer Michael Halford.
